[Public Talk] Geopoetics Regarding A Waterless Sea

2024年9月10日

時間:下午8時30分 - 下午9時30分

地點:

香港中文大學陳國本樓123室

Speaker: Nabuqi (Beijing based Artist)
Moderator: Prof Yongwoo Lee (Assistant Professor of Cultural Studies, CUHK)

English-Chinese Translation by Tian Yang.

Introduction

Nabuqi's second solo exhibition in Hong Kong, "Geopoetics regarding a waterless sea", is based on the titular novel by author Chen Si'an, which was commissioned specifically for this exhibition. As a representative of the 1980s-generation of Chinese sculptors, Nabuqi is known for a remarkable body of work that she has developed over the past decade prior to her participation in the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019, as well as for a distinctive interest in literature, which ranges from The Black Dwarf by Walter Scott to Autumn Night by Lu Xun.

In the upcoming talk, Nabuqi and Yongwoo Lee will discuss the many origins of the exhibition, as an example of the spiral movement that is made possible by an interplay between sculptural and literary forms. The cultural and geological histories of Hong Kong, which are imaginatively explored in Chen Si'an's novel, will also be a topic that merits a conversation between those who are, from afar, deeply concerned with Hong Kong's changes, and those who experience the city on a local and daily basis.

This talk is co-organised by Kiang Malingue and MA in Cultural Management Programme, CUHK.
