Abstract
The evolution of painting, one of the oldest art forms, continues to spark discussion in the realm of contemporary art. While often considered a passive medium, recent developments in aesthetic experiences have led to innovative judgments regarding painting, with new artistic media inspiring novel forms of expression. This lecture will explore the work of Chow Chun Fai, an artist known for seamlessly blending different media into his paintings. By utilizing film stills as subjects and employing photographic techniques to reinterpret classical works, Chow Chun Fai exemplifies the interplay between painting and contemporary media. Through this analysis, the lecture will highlight how he enriches his artistic practice by drawing on knowledge from various modern forms, ultimately redefining the boundaries of painting.
